Nevada law says you must register your production with the Nevada Film Office (NFO), and since it's free and saves you guesswork, time, effort and phone calls, be sure you do that first! The NFO offers a clearinghouse of information, assistance, resources and materials to connect you to locations, people and services to meet your production needs. Call 877-NEV-FILM (877-638-3456) toll-free for a free production directory and other useful materials.

In Nevada, as in most places throughout the United States, proof of liability insurance is required. Your own insurer can issue a liability rider/binder Certificate of Insurance naming all entities as "additional insured” if the company is "authorized to do business in Nevada." Worker's Comp has been greatly simplified. Your current carrier—if authorized to do business here--can extend your company's existing coverage to Nevada. Employers Insurance Group, which handles workers comp in Nevada, can be reached at http://www.ecicwc.com/ or 1-888-682-6671. The exact law is found at http://dirweb.state.nv.us/wcs/ObtainingWC.pdf

In southern Nevada, a City of Las Vegas or Clark County permit covers most key locations. "The Strip" (Las Vegas Boulevard from Sahara Avenue south) is under the jurisdiction of Clark County, as are many other southern Nevada locations.
The City of Las Vegas covers Las Vegas Boulevard north of Sahara. The "Fremont Street Experience" is also under the authority of the City but managed by a private entity.

PROCESSING PERMITS

General city and county permit processing time is at least three (3) working days, if production is simple and involves no stunts, pyro, special effects or major traffic controls. More complicated projects require additional working days. Environmentally sensitive lands such as federal parks and wilderness have varying timelines. Those that have already received environmental assessments usually require 10 working days notice, while it can take months for those that need an environmental study. The Lake Tahoe Basin generally takes 30 days to clear.

FEES

Many Nevada county and city permits are free. Fees for wilderness and recreation areas, state parks and similar locations are based on the size of the crew, number of vehicles, type of use intended, expected impact and other variables.

PRIVATE PROPERTY AND SIDEWALKS

Many sidewalks on the Las Vegas Strip are the private property of hotels they border. Status changes, and Clark County can advise which are currently public. A government permit does not include private property. You must receive permission from property owners.

For additional inquires and or questions call 877-NEV-FILM (877-638-3456).
